Registration opened Monday for five before-school enrichment programs at Potomac Elementary, giving families a back-to-school checklist item as MCPS students return to class Tuesday, Aug. 25.

The Potomac Elementary PTA posted the fall lineup Aug. 24, offering chess, running, choir, math enrichment and Math Olympiad for students in grades K through 5. All five programs meet on weekday mornings between 7:30 and 9:15 a.m.

Here's what's available:

Silver Knights Chess Academy (grades K–5) runs Tuesdays, 8:15–9:15 a.m., from Sept. 29 through Dec. 22. The 12-week session costs $258, and all chess supplies are provided. The program skips Nov. 3. Silver Knights has taught chess in Montgomery County since 2010.

Girls on the Run (grades 3–5) meets Mondays and Thursdays, 7:30–8:45 a.m., from Sept. 28 through Nov. 19. Students must attend both practice days. Space is limited, and families must register by Oct. 1 at girlsontherunofmoco.org. Girls on the Run of Montgomery County said on Facebook that "spots fill fast." Coach Megan is the PES contact.

Potomac Choir Plus+ (grades 3–5) begins Wednesday, Sept. 16, with rehearsals every Wednesday, 8:15–9:15 a.m., in the PES music classroom. PES music teacher Gretchen Hill leads the program, which works toward public performances. Students must attend every rehearsal; parents can reach Hill at [email protected].

Mathnasium (grades K–5) holds Thursday sessions, 8:15–9:15 a.m., from Sept. 10 through Dec. 17. Trained Mathnasium instructors lead hands-on enrichment with games, homework help and rewards.

Math Olympiad with Dr. Zhang (grades 4–5) meets Wednesdays, 8:10–9:10 a.m. The start date and registration link had not been posted as of Aug. 24; the PTA listed both as "coming soon."

The PTA also noted that additional before- and after-school programs are available through outside vendors via ActiveMONTGOMERY.

Families can find registration links and full program details at potomacpta.org. The nearest deadline is Oct. 1 for Girls on the Run.
