Montgomery County government offices, libraries and recreation centers are closed Monday, Sept. 7, for Labor Day. Trash pickup across Potomac slides one day for the rest of the week.

The county's holiday schedule affects dozens of services. Here's what Potomac residents need to know.

Trash and recycling

There is no county trash or recycling collection on Sept. 7. Because Potomac is unincorporated Montgomery County, the county's slide schedule applies: Monday pickups move to Tuesday, Sept. 8; Tuesday to Wednesday, Sept. 9; Wednesday to Thursday, Sept. 10; Thursday to Friday, Sept. 11; and Friday to Saturday, Sept. 12. The Shady Grove Transfer Station and Recycling Center is also closed.

Residents in nearby municipalities should check with their local government. Municipal schedules may differ, according to the county's trash and recycling holiday page.

Transit

Ride On buses run on a Sunday schedule. Ride On extRa and Flex services are not operating. The Flash Orange Route runs on a weekend/holiday schedule, and the Flash Blue Route is not running.

MARC trains are not operating. Metrorail runs on a Sunday schedule, with trains from 6 a.m. to midnight. Metrobus also follows a Sunday schedule.

Parking

Public parking garages, lots and curbside meters are free all day.

What's closed

County offices, MC 311, the Department of Permitting Services, state offices and courts, MVA offices and vehicle emissions stations are all closed. Libraries are closed both Sunday, Sept. 6, and Monday, Sept. 7.

Recreation centers, senior centers and indoor aquatic centers are closed. That includes the Potomac Community Recreation Center on Falls Road, per the county's blanket closure of all recreation centers.

Montgomery Parks headquarters, the Pauline Betz Addie Tennis Center, Wheaton Indoor Tennis, Cabin John Ice Rink and Wheaton Ice Arena are also closed, Bethesda Magazine reported.

What's open

Outdoor pools are open. County Alcohol Beverage Services (ABS) stores are open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Montgomery Parks is keeping its Open Parkways program running through Sept. 7 for the holiday weekend, according to Montgomery Parks. All parks, trails, gardens, playgrounds, dog parks, skate parks and outdoor courts are open sunrise to sunset.

Several Montgomery Parks attractions are open for the last day of summer season hours, including Brookside Gardens (sunrise to sunset, visitor center 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Butterfly Experience 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.), the Cabin John Miniature Train (9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.), the Wheaton Miniature Train and Carousel (9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) and Lake Needwood Boats (10 a.m. to 6 p.m.).

Normal county services resume Tuesday, Sept. 8, and the trash slide schedule runs through Saturday, Sept. 12.
