Churchill beat Bethesda-Chevy Chase 20-19 on Sept. 4 after rallying from a 13-0 deficit to open the 2026 football season at 1-0.

B-CC raced out to an early lead before the Bulldogs stormed back, according to DC News Now. Senior quarterback Hunter Humphries threw for 232 yards in the comeback, ranking third in Maryland in passing yards after the opening weekend, according to MaxPreps. Senior wide receiver AJ Wiseman ranked 11th statewide in receiving yards.

The comeback win validated Churchill's No. 3 preseason ranking in Montgomery County, according to MoCo Show's preseason poll. MoCo Show's Damon Anderson wrote that the Bulldogs' biggest 2026 challenge is replacing offensive production from last season, "particularly in the running game."

Wootton, Potomac's other Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) program, opened with a 47-0 rout of Rockville.

Across the county, the Week 2 slate features several tests for teams Churchill will see later this fall. Quince Orchard, the two-time defending Class 4A state champion riding a 28-game win streak, hosts Walter Johnson on Thursday, Sept. 10, at 6:30 p.m. MaxPreps ranks the Cougars No. 1 in Maryland. No. 18 Sherwood, which demolished Magruder 57-0 in Week 1, travels to Seneca Valley for a 6:30 p.m. kickoff Thursday in Sandy Spring. Sherwood beat Seneca Valley 35-7 last season, according to Bethesda Magazine's Week 2 preview.

B-CC, Churchill's Week 1 opponent, visits Montgomery Blair on Thursday, Sept. 10, at 7 p.m. in Silver Spring. Blair running back Lucas Copeland rushed for 229 yards and two touchdowns in a 39-21 win over Wheaton. He was named Maryland High School Sports' player of the week on Instagram.

Churchill's full 2026 schedule includes matchups against Quince Orchard, Sherwood and Northwest. Specific dates for those games were not available as of Wednesday, Sept. 9. Thursday's county-wide slate kicks off at 6:30 p.m. with the Sherwood-Seneca Valley and Quince Orchard-Walter Johnson games.
