The 5-1 Winston Churchill Bulldogs host the 4-2 Seneca Valley Eagles at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16 in Potomac.
Senior quarterback Hunter Humphries threw four touchdowns in Churchill's 35-0 shutout of Gaithersburg on Oct. 9, according to Bethesda Magazine. The Bulldogs' only loss this season came against undefeated Quince Orchard, a 41-0 defeat on Oct. 2. In that game, Humphries threw an interception and was sacked, and the Bulldogs fumbled twice. He responded against Gaithersburg with the four-touchdown outing that pushed Churchill's record to 5-1.
Quince Orchard, which has now won 33 straight, is the only undefeated team in Montgomery County Public Schools. Losing to that caliber of opponent is no mark against Churchill's season.
The Eagles bring a 4-2 record to Potomac, and the series between these programs has been competitive. Seneca Valley holds a 4-3 edge in the last seven meetings, with lopsided results on both sides. The Eagles won 56-22 in 2016 and 40-10 in 2017. Churchill answered with a 42-6 win in 2018.
The two teams have traded results in recent years. Churchill won 27-7 in September 2023. Seneca Valley took a 14-10 decision in September 2024. Churchill responded with a 35-0 shutout at Seneca Valley in Germantown on Oct. 17, 2025.
Humphries will be the player to watch Friday. The senior quarterback's ability to rebound after the Quince Orchard loss showed against Gaithersburg, and the Bulldogs will need that kind of production to keep their strong season on track.
A win Friday would move Churchill to 6-1 heading into the back half of the schedule.
