A pattern of vehicle thefts that has hit Potomac repeatedly since late July now comes alongside new threats: catalytic converter thefts and a handgun-related assault reported in the Montgomery County Police Department's Aug. 11 crime summary for the 1st District.
Specific addresses, suspect descriptions and victim details for the Aug. 11 incidents have not been released publicly in the available summaries.
Property crime string continues
The Aug. 11 summary adds to a string of property crimes in the Potomac-Rockville corridor this summer. As we reported Aug. 11, an auto theft on Park Potomac Avenue that weekend marked the third vehicle stolen in the Potomac area since late July. A vehicle theft on McAuliffe Drive was reported during the July 25–26 weekend, and an aggravated knife assault in the 1st District on July 22 left a woman with non-life-threatening injuries.
Catalytic converter thefts have appeared repeatedly in MCPD crime summaries throughout the summer, including in a July 16 report, indicating a persistent countywide pattern.
