A vehicle was stolen from Park Potomac Avenue and a suspect was arrested after making online threats on Postoak Road, according to the Montgomery County Police Department's weekend crime summary covering Aug. 7–9.

The two incidents were the only ones in the MCPD's 1st District, which covers Potomac, out of a countywide summary that also included burglaries, assaults, catalytic converter thefts and hate-bias and firearm-related cases across all six police districts. The department posted the summary on its verified X account Monday, Aug. 10.

The Park Potomac Avenue theft marks the third vehicle stolen from a Potomac-area address in MCPD crime summaries since late July. Earlier incidents included a theft from McAuliffe Drive during the weekend of July 25–26 and a single auto theft in the 1st District during the first 20 days of July.

The trend tracks with a broader countywide surge. Auto thefts in Montgomery County are up 20% so far this year, Bethesda Magazine reported Aug. 3.

No vehicle description was released.

MCPD has been distributing free steering wheel locks at district stations since early August in response to the rise in thefts. The department has not released additional details about the Park Potomac Avenue case or the Postoak Road arrest.

No suspect name or charges were listed in the summary for the online-threats arrest, consistent with MCPD's practice of withholding names before charges are filed.

The department asks residents with information about either incident to call the non-emergency line at 301-279-8000.
