Wootton athletes are building team chemistry off the field through shared meals, Topgolf outings and one memorable recording studio session.

Four sports programs described their bonding traditions in a feature published Tuesday by the Wootton Common Sense, the school's student newspaper. The rituals range from casual post-practice dinners to a lacrosse team homecoming stunt.

Girls' field hockey players gather for team dinners after practice, with the Chipotle in Fallsgrove a go-to spot because of its proximity to school. They also hit Topgolf, where the hand-swing motion resembles a field hockey swing. Sophomore Anya Micalizzi told the Common Sense that even a casual dinner gives the team a chance to bond away from the field.

Boys' lacrosse senior Keon Gray said his teammates head to Fallsgrove for meals after practice. The team also showed up to Wootton's Friday, Oct. 2 homecoming carrying their lacrosse sticks. "It was a fun way for everyone on the team to bring our sport to homecoming," Gray told the Common Sense.

The golf team makes an annual trip to Topgolf and held a team dinner at Ledo's Pizza on Rockville Pike, about 15 minutes from Lakewood Country Club, where the team practices. Senior captain Hannah Chen said the Topgolf outing lets players improve their skills in a lower-pressure setting while getting to know each other.

Girls' basketball found its own lane during the 2025–26 season. The team visited a recording studio, where each player created a rap song about basketball, complete with joke disses aimed at teammates. Senior Hailey Goldberg called it a unique bonding experience she never would have thought to do with her teammates. The team also holds dinners at players' homes. Sleepovers, too.
