Wootton will host Churchill on Friday, Oct. 23, at 6:30 p.m. in a Senior Night rivalry game that will honor graduating members of four programs at once.

Seniors from football, cheer, poms and band will be recognized before and during the game at Thomas S. Wootton High School, according to the Wootton Common Sense student newspaper. All four groups share the same evening, meaning the annual Churchill-Wootton matchup doubles as a school-wide ceremony.

"I am excited because I think a lot of people will show up and it will be a great game atmosphere but it can get really chaotic," Wootton senior Dylan Neustadt told Common Sense. "I want to see how it will play out but also want to make sure we're celebrated throughout the game."

The records tell the story. Churchill sits at 4-1 overall and 2-1 in region play, according to MaxPreps. The Bulldogs won their first four games before a 41-0 loss at Quince Orchard on Oct. 2. Wootton is 1-4 overall and 0-1 in region play after a 47-0 opening-night win over Rockville on Sept. 4 was followed by four straight losses, the most recent a 21-20 overtime defeat to Magruder on Oct. 2.

Churchill's offense leans on a pair of seniors who rank among Maryland's statistical leaders through five weeks. Quarterback Hunter Humphries is fourth in the state with 835 passing yards. Wide receiver AJ Wiseman is sixth with 353 receiving yards. In a Sept. 24 win over Whitman, Humphries threw for 194 yards and two touchdowns while completing 76.2% of his passes.

Wootton counters with junior running back Dean Lauritzen, who ranks 13th in Maryland with 461 rushing yards.

Before the matchup, Churchill hosts Gaithersburg on Oct. 9 and Seneca Valley on Oct. 16. Wootton plays at Richard Montgomery on Oct. 9 and hosts Sherwood on Oct. 15.

Both teams close the regular season Oct. 30, with Wootton traveling to Clarksburg and Churchill heading to Paint Branch.
