Montgomery County is reprinting more than 40,000 voter guides after a vendor listed wrong polling places and party affiliations for residents in 11 precincts.
The Board of Elections learned Tuesday, Sept. 22, that a batch of Voter Information Guides mailed to 40,640 registered voters in the Clarksburg, Germantown and Poolesville areas carried incorrect information on the back of each booklet. The board announced the error Wednesday, Sept. 23, in a press release. The front of each guide had the correct voter name, address and sample ballot.
No registration records were changed.
The misprinted guides are informational mailers, not actual ballots. The board has not identified any Potomac-area precincts among those affected, but all Montgomery County voters can use the verification tools below to double-check their information ahead of the Nov. 3 general election.
The error hit 40,640 of the county's more than 700,000 registered voters. The board began mailing guides countywide on Wednesday, Sept. 16, with batches continuing through the following week.
Board of Elections Chair David Naimon told The Banner the vendor acknowledged the mistake and is absorbing the cost of reprinting. The board said corrected guides would be mailed to all 11 affected precincts by the beginning of the week of Sept. 28.
The board also planned to email a correction notice to affected voters who have an email address on file. Naimon told Bethesda Magazine on Sept. 23 the board has emails for more than half of the 40,640 people affected.
"Our first order of business when something like this happens is to fix it for our voters," Naimon told Bethesda Magazine on Sept. 23.
Naimon said the vendor involved is not the same company, Taylor Print & Visual Impressions, that forced the reissue of hundreds of thousands of absentee ballots during the primary earlier in 2026. The vendor has assured the board that guides for the remaining 246 precincts are correct.
The board has not published a list of the 11 specific precinct numbers. The affected areas are described only as Clarksburg, Germantown and Poolesville.
Naimon noted that the wrong polling place matters most for voters who plan to cast a ballot in person on Election Day. Voters who use mail-in ballots or vote early at any county polling site can use any location and are not affected by the polling-place error.
To verify voter information, the board offers these options:
- Text FIND to 77788 to confirm a polling place.
- Text CHECK to 77788 to see a full voting record, including party affiliation and polling place.
- Visit www.777vote.org and follow the "Find Your Polling Place" link.
- Contact the Board of Elections at [email protected] or 240-777-8500.
Corrected guides are expected to reach mailboxes the week of Sept. 28.
