Winston Churchill travels to Walt Whitman on Thursday, Sept. 24, with a 3-0 record and a chance to take control of the Congressional Cup race.
The Bulldogs have outscored opponents 83-38 through three games, according to MaxPreps. Their Friday, Sept. 18, blowout of Walter Johnson, 35-6, was Churchill's largest margin over the Wildcats since 2016. Senior quarterback Hunter Humphries threw a 20-yard touchdown pass to senior wide receiver Will Quackenboss and ran one in himself. Seniors James Le, Isaiah Taylor and AJ Wiseman also scored. Junior linebacker Tommy McHugh added 11 tackles, a sack and two tackles for loss.
"I just want us to keep building confidence and chemistry each week," Humphries said after the Sept. 18 win over Walter Johnson, as Bethesda Magazine reported.
Whitman (2-1) enters the matchup after beating Wootton 28-14 on Sept. 18. The MoCo Show called the Thursday game a potential Congressional Cup decider. Kickoff is 7 p.m. in Bethesda.
Churchill sits second in Class 4A West with a 2-0 region mark, per MaxPreps.
Wootton at Walter Johnson
Wootton (1-2) heads to Walter Johnson (1-2) on Thursday, Sept. 24, looking to snap a losing streak against the Wildcats that dates to 2018, according to The MoCo Show. Both teams are coming off lopsided Week 3 losses.
Quince Orchard at Seneca Valley
Undefeated Quince Orchard (3-0) carries a 30-game win streak into Thursday, Sept. 24, at Seneca Valley (2-1) in Germantown. Kickoff is 6:30 p.m. The Cougars, five-time Class 4A state champions under head coach John Kelley, have shut out Seneca Valley five straight years, per The MoCo Show. In Week 3, senior running back Jaiden Hebron ran for more than 100 yards and scored a fourth-quarter touchdown to seal a 20-6 win over Stone Bridge, as Bethesda Magazine reported.
Four MCPS teams remain unbeaten: Damascus, Quince Orchard, Sherwood and Churchill.
Good Counsel at Malvern Prep
Our Lady of Good Counsel (2-1) travels to Malvern Prep (1-2) in Pennsylvania on Friday, Sept. 25, at 7 p.m. for the first-ever meeting between the two programs. Junior quarterback Luca Cogliandolo threw for 300 yards and five touchdowns in a 52-17 Week 3 win over Middletown of Delaware, earning a Sports Illustrated Maryland Player of the Week nomination, per Bethesda Magazine.
