Two suspects were arrested after three vehicles were stolen in the North Potomac area over the July 4th holiday weekend, the Montgomery County Department of Police reported.

The thefts occurred in the 6th District between Friday and Sunday. The district covers North Potomac and surrounding Gaithersburg-area neighborhoods.

Two cars were stolen from residential streets. In a third incident, someone smashed a vehicle's window before taking the car.

The 6th District also reported an aggravated assault during the same three-day period. The department did not provide additional details about that incident in its summary.

Vehicle theft prevention

The MCPD routinely reminds residents to lock vehicles, remove key fobs from cars left in driveways and avoid leaving valuables visible inside parked vehicles. Holiday weekends tend to see increased opportunistic thefts when residents are away from home or have irregular schedules.

Residents who notice suspicious activity around parked cars or driveways should call 911 if a crime is in progress. For non-emergency reports, call 301-279-8000.

How to submit a tip

Anyone with information about these incidents can contact Montgomery County Crime Solvers anonymously at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477) or submit a tip online through the department's website. Tips that lead to an arrest or indictment may qualify for a reward of up to $10,000.

The MCPD releases weekend crime summaries each Monday covering calls for service from the prior Friday through Sunday. The next summary, covering July 10–12, is expected the following week.
