Churchill hosts Gaithersburg at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, in a Class 4A West region game in Potomac. The Bulldogs are looking to bounce back from their first loss of the season.

Churchill (4-1, 2-1 region) dropped a 41-0 shutout at Quince Orchard on Friday, Oct. 2. The Bulldogs had entered that game undefeated. Bethesda Magazine reported that Churchill stayed close through much of the first quarter before the Cougars pulled away. Senior quarterback Hunter Humphries threw an interception, and the Bulldogs fumbled twice in the first half as Quince Orchard built a 21-0 halftime lead.

Quince Orchard extended its win streak to 32 games with the victory. The Cougars have won five Class 4A state titles since 2018 and had allowed just six points all season entering the Churchill game.

Before the QO trip, Churchill's offense had been clicking. In a 35-14 win at Whitman on Sept. 24, Humphries threw for 194 yards and two touchdowns while completing 76.2% of his passes, according to MaxPreps. He also scored a rushing touchdown. Wide receiver AJ Wiseman hauled in 92 receiving yards and a score. Defensive linemen Saahir Lester and James Le combined for three sacks.

The Bulldogs are 2-0 at home this season.

Gaithersburg (2-3, 0-3 region) comes to Potomac winless in region play and coming off a 31-2 loss to Northwest on Friday, Oct. 2, according to the Trojans' MaxPreps schedule. The Trojans sit in eighth place in the Class 4A West standings. Their two wins came against Northwood (41-0) and Watkins Mill (61-0). Losses to Walter Johnson, Seneca Valley and Northwest have come by a combined score of 81-21.

Churchill outranks Gaithersburg in MaxPreps' Maryland ratings, No. 40 to No. 133. The Bulldogs have outscored opponents 118-93 through five games.

A win Saturday would improve Churchill to 3-1 in region play. A Gaithersburg victory would be the Trojans' first in the region this year.

After the Gaithersburg game, Churchill hosts Seneca Valley on Friday, Oct. 16, travels to Wootton on Friday, Oct. 23, and closes the regular season at home against Paint Branch on Friday, Oct. 30.
